The Nutcracker is a two-act ballet composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s 1816 fairy tale “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King”. It tells the story of a young girl named Clara (or Marie) who receives a nutcracker doll as a Christmas gift. That night, she dreams that the nutcracker comes to life and, after battling an army of mice, is transformed into a prince who takes her on a magical journey to the Land of Sweets.
