Fiesta 2026: The Parking Playbook (Limited Time)

Let’s be real: If you try to park like it’s a normal Tuesday during Fiesta, you’re going to end up with a $200 tow bill and a ruined night. Between the parades, NIOSA, and Oyster Bake, the city’s footprint is basically one giant “No Parking” zone.

Here is the Encore strategy for getting in, getting out, and keeping your sanity.

1. The Golden Rule: VIA Park & Ride

If you value your time (and your bank account), this is the only way to go. For $2.50 each way, you skip the gridlock and get dropped off at the gates.

  • The Hubs: Crossroads, Stone Oak, and Brooks Transit Center.

  • Pro-Tip: Download the VIA goMobile+ app before you leave the house. Standing in a ticket line at the transit center is for amateurs.

  • The “Oyster Bake” Move: Park & Ride from Crossroads to St. Mary’s University is mandatory. Do not even attempt to park in the neighborhoods around the campus; the tow trucks are faster than the bands.

2. The Downtown “Blackout”

The City of San Antonio officially suspends “Downtown Tuesday” (Free Parking) on April 21, 2026.

  • City Garages: Expect flat “Event Rates” ranging from $20 to $40.

  • The St. Mary’s Street Garage: Usually a safe bet, but it fills up by 4:30 PM for NIOSA.

  • Avoid: Surface lots without an attendant. Scammers love to put up fake “Pay Here” signs during Fiesta. If there isn’t a digital kiosk or a branded uniform, keep driving.

3. The “Pearl Pivot” for Parades

Going to the Battle of Flowers (April 24) or Flambeau (April 25)? The closer you get to the route, the more trapped you are.

  • The Strategy: Park at the Pearl or near the Museum Reach. It’s a 15-minute walk to the parade route, but you’ll be on the highway heading home while everyone else is stuck in the downtown “loop of death.”

  • The Water Taxi: Use the Go Rio River Shuttles. It’s the most scenic way to bypass the street closures and get from the Museum Reach down to the action.

4. Rideshare “Safety Zones”

Surge pricing is real, but a $50 Uber is still cheaper than a DWI or a tow. However, do not set your pickup point on the parade route or directly in front of La Villita.

  • The Pickup Spot: Walk 3–4 blocks away from the crowd. Head toward The Esquire Tavern or Travis Park to give your driver a fighting chance to reach you.

The “Encore” Red Alert Checklist:

  • Check the Curb: If it’s painted any color other than grey, don’t touch it.

  • Hide the Goods: Fiesta is high-season for “smash-and-grabs.” Leave nothing—not even a medal—visible in your car.

  • The “Prked” App: Check for private driveway rentals in Southtown. It’s the emerging secret for King William Fair attendees.
