Dinner with a DJ – Appreciation Dinner In Honor of The Coalition’s DJ Funky
DJ Funky (Funky Darryl James) Funky Darryl James, widely known as DJ Funky, stands as one of the South’s premier DJs, deeply rooted in the vibrant Atlanta music scene since the 1990s. His journey began in 1995 when he founded the iconic Legion of Doom DJs, where his talent for creating mixtapes and spinning tracks quickly made waves across nearly every club in the ATL.
DJ Funky’s influence expanded as he became a featured DJ and radio personality on Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def Radio, broadcasting on CBS/V103fm. Here, he had the unique opportunity to interview some of the entertainment industry’s finest, further solidifying his status in the music world.
As one of the four founding members of the Coalition DJs, DJ Funky has played an instrumental role in promoting and breaking new music, particularly within Atlanta’s adult entertainment venues. Renowned rap artists like 2Chainz, Future, and Migos have all credited DJ Funky and the Coalition DJs with transforming their tracks into chart-topping hits.
In August 2013, DJ Funky and the Coalition DJs were featured in a Wall Street Journal article titled “The Rise of Atlanta’s Strip-Club DJs as Music Moguls,” highlighting their significant impact on the music industry. His extensive experience includes spinning at notable Atlanta nightclubs such as Strokers, Tease, and Club Silhouettes. He also served as the program director for WorldStar Hit Radio, further showcasing his versatility and expertise.
DJ Funky collaborates with a diverse range of artists, both independent and major, alongside various production houses, consistently releasing fresh projects that resonate with audiences.
