When Megadeth announced this self-titled album in 2025, ringleader Dave Mustaine said it would be their last. And though Mustaine says he arrived at the decision to end the band roughly halfway through the writing of Megadeth, it\u2019s a fitting swan song. Nearly half of the album\u2019s 10 tracks\u201411 if you count the noteworthy bonus track\u2014have a distinct farewell or stroll-down-memory-lane quality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shareasale.com\/u.cfm?d=899735&amp;m=99503&amp;u=1973528\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6452\" src=\"http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/614X190-1_Banner.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/614X190-1_Banner.jpg 614w, http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/614X190-1_Banner-300x93.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Mustaine may be pushing 65, but he still possesses the venom that launched Megadeth\u2019s 1985 debut, Killing Is My Business\u2026and Business is Good!, into all-time headbanging history. At that point, he was 23 years old and angry about being kicked out of Metallica. Pissed at his former bandmates, he channeled his vitriol into a thrash masterpiece. On Megadeth\u2019s leadoff track, \u201cTipping Point,\u201d he\u2019s just as irate (\u201cCrossing my heart, how I hope you will die\u201d), this time at an unnamed but very real antagonist.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6466\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6466\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Music\/?p=6220\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6466\" src=\"http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Megadeth-Megadeth.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Megadeth-Megadeth.jpg 270w, http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Megadeth-Megadeth-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6466\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stream-Megadeth. Image Courtesy Of Apple Services<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cLet There Be Shred\u201d is world-class thrash that seems like a reflection upon Mustaine\u2019s early days in the LA metal scene and eventual star turn with Metallica. \u201cThe Last Note\u201d was originally written about people who commit suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. Mustaine changed course after Megadeth guitarist Teemu M\u00e4ntysaari winced at the dark subject matter. Now it\u2019s a heartfelt and surprisingly vulnerable adieu: \u201cThe roar I lived for, it starts to die\/And now it\u2019s time for me to say the long goodbye.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shareasale.com\/u.cfm?d=899735&amp;m=99503&amp;u=1973528\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6452\" src=\"http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/614X190-1_Banner.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/614X190-1_Banner.jpg 614w, http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/614X190-1_Banner-300x93.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The kiss-off track \u201cI Don\u2019t Care,\u201d with its punk propulsion and skateboarding-themed video, seems like a middle finger to the music industry in which Mustaine has toiled for so long. As it turns out, it\u2019s about the same person he\u2019s calling out in \u201cTipping Point.\u201d The bonus track is Mustaine\u2019s version of \u201cRide the Lightning,\u201d a classic Metallica song he co-wrote when he was still a member of the band. He\u2019s done this before: \u201cMechanix,\u201d which appeared on Killing Is My Business, is Mustaine\u2019s version of Metallica\u2019s \u201cThe Four Horsemen,\u201d which he also co-wrote. Mustaine has said recording \u201cRide the Lightning\u201d is his way of paying his respects and \u201cclosing the circle.\u201d If this really is Megadeth\u2019s last album, consider the circle closed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Every product\/service is selected by editors.
