That said, the stakes feel dramatically high on The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Gr\u00e2ce), its title the most thematically loaded of his two-and-a-half-decade career. If this does end up the genuine final curtain call for Eminem\u2019s most notorious alter ego, he makes it a point to execute it on his own controversy-baiting terms, whether people like it or not.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Addressing his detractors head-on, \u201cHabits\u201d defensively dismantles criticisms both internal and external, taking personal inventory while decrying political correctness. Naturally, Slim isn\u2019t about to go out quietly. Ever the eager pugilist, he exploits his upper hand with Fight Club panache on \u201cBrand New Dance\u201d and \u201cTrouble.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The character\u2019s antagonism vacillates between self-destructive outbursts and strategic gaslighting, gleefully poking at touchy topics on \u201cHoudini\u201d and assigning we\u2019re-in-this-together complicity to Marshall on the surprise sequel \u201cGuilty Conscience 2.\u201d Yet even as the tragicomically intertwined foes grapple with one another, the album still makes room for something as personal as \u201cTemporary,\u201d a heartfelt message to his daughter for after he\u2019s gone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">With the added benefit of a few unexpected cameos, including Michigan-repping cut \u201cTobey\u201d with Big Sean and BabyTron, the over-the-top theatricality driving The Death of\u2026 feels like fan service, giving his longtime patrons the Eminem show they\u2019ve come to expect from him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Every product\/service is selected by editors.
