A Love Supreme: Live in Seattle joins Blue World and Both Directions at Once: The Lost Album among the belated additions to Coltrane\u2019s posthumous Impulse! discography (another being Live in Seattle, from 1971, which documented an earlier night of the same club stint).<\/p>\n<p>Coltrane seldom performed A Love Supreme live, although the 2002 ALS reissue includes a quality recording from Antibes in late July of 1965, heretofore the only known documented instance.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4001\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4001\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/streamapse.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4001\" src=\"http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/John-Coltrane.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"700\" srcset=\"http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/John-Coltrane.jpg 700w, http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/John-Coltrane-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/John-Coltrane-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4001\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"http:\/\/streamapse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Stream A Love Supreme: Live In Seattle<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Seattle performance, captured live at The Penthouse on October 2 of the same year, is a revelation of its own. Recorded by the late saxophonist Joe Brazil and discovered in 2013 by saxophonist Steve Griggs, the tape is more than clear enough to convey the band\u2019s raw chemistry and tonal nuance in full detail.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ticketstream.streamapse.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3651\" src=\"http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/TOP_BANNER_STREAMAPSE.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"968\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/TOP_BANNER_STREAMAPSE.jpg 968w, http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/TOP_BANNER_STREAMAPSE-300x78.jpg 300w, http:\/\/streamapse.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/TOP_BANNER_STREAMAPSE-768x200.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 968px) 100vw, 968px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The result is a complete and beautifully realized performance from the classic quartet in its waning days, augmented by saxophonists Pharoah Sanders and Carlos Ward and second bassist Donald Rafael Garrett. This reflects Coltrane\u2019s growing interest in expanded ensembles and an ever freer, more heated approach to improvisation.
